Director of Communications for the EFDD group, one of the lead organisers of the Irexit: Freedom to Prosper Event and Derry man, Hermann Kelly, wants Ireland to be free and sovereign of the EU. In 1916 we were in a political union with the UK. Now in 2018, we are in a political union with the EU. He sat down with Grand Torino to discuss this and much more.
During the sellout Irexit event in the RDS, Nigel Farage, of Ukip, stated that there is a need for a party to put forward Irexit. He urged anti-EU Irish voters to contest the European Parliament elections in June 2019. “I don’t think Ireland is a pro-EU country. Since the Brexit vote, eurosceptic parties had sprung up across Europe challenging EU immigration policies" he said.
The euro is “a currency that frankly you are ill-suited for”, and after the “humiliating” experience of “being run by the troika” after the economic crash, along with being a net contributor to the EU budget, you have to wonder why Ireland is in the EU at all.
Hermann Kelly, said he hoped the turnout at the conference would spur a new political movement to run candidates in those elections and beyond.
"Wasn’t it farcical and hypocritical to watch Michael D. and Leo Varadkar participate in the commemoration of the patriots of 1916. These two oppose the very things the men and women of 1916 stood for - an independent self-governing Irish Republic."
"Irexit is the only way in which the Irish People & the Irish State can take back control of our laws, our borders, our currency, our tax and budget policy, our fisheries and marine resources, our citizenship, our human rights, our foreign policy & our military neutrality."
